Today Eugene Oregon’s Conrad Barney and Canada’s Chief Spence of the Attawapiskat First Nation are both ending the third week of their respective hunger strikes.
Barney, an unhoused straight A student in Eugene is on a hunger strike for the rights of those who are unhoused to have shelter. Chief Spence is on a hunger strike for the rights of indigenous people. Both represent groups discriminated against by society and legislated against by government.
To mark the beginning of the fourth week of his hunger strike, Barney and supporters will be at the shuttered City Hall at 777 Pearl Street, in front of the Memorial to the Unhoused Who Have Died in Eugene. The Memorial was erected by the Homeless Solutions Support Group Of Occupy Eugene and by Interfaith Occupy.
